The principle: Dubai punishes bad sequencing. Put the desert safari on the day after arrival and you will be exhausted; climb Burj Khalifa at noon and you will see haze. This itinerary is sequenced the way we actually book it for customers — with realistic travel times and one big activity per day.
Before you go
- Visa: UAE e-Visa, 3–5 working days. Your passport needs six months' validity. We file it with your ticket.
- Transport: get a Nol card at the airport for the Metro and tram. Taxis are metered and plentiful; Careem and Uber work well.
- Dress: light clothing for the day, a light layer for over-air-conditioned malls, and shoulders/knees covered for the Grand Mosque in Abu Dhabi.
- Money: cards are accepted almost everywhere; carry AED 300–500 in cash for souks and small cafés.
- Timing: Fridays are the quietest mornings (weekend is Saturday–Sunday), and the Metro is packed between 5 and 8 PM.
Day 1 — Arrival, Dubai Marina and a dhow cruise
- Land at DXB or DWC, complete immigration (20–40 minutes), transfer to your hotel — 25 minutes to Deira, 35 to Downtown.
- Late afternoon: walk the Marina promenade or JBR beach. This is the easiest first evening because everything is walkable.
- Evening: dhow dinner cruise on the Marina with live entertainment. Book the 8 PM sailing for the full skyline.
- Tip: if you land after 9 PM, skip the cruise and shift it to Day 2 — no point paying for a dinner you will sleep through.
Day 2 — Old Dubai morning, Burj Khalifa at sunset
- Morning: Al Fahidi historic district, Dubai Museum, then abra (water taxi, AED 1) across the Creek to the Gold and Spice Souks.
- Lunch: a cheap and excellent meal in Meena Bazaar or Al Rigga.
- Afternoon: rest, then head to Dubai Mall by 4:30 PM.
- Sunset slot (5:00–6:30 PM depending on season): Burj Khalifa level 124 + 125. Book a timed slot 10–14 days ahead; sunset slots sell out first.
- After: Dubai Fountain show every 30 minutes from 6 PM, then dinner at Souk Al Bahar.
Day 3 — Desert safari (or Abu Dhabi, not both)
- Desert safari: pickup 3:00–3:30 PM from most hotels, 45 minutes to Lahbab. Dune bashing, camel ride, sandboarding, henna, tanoura show, BBQ buffet, drop back around 9:30–10:30 PM.
- Abu Dhabi instead: a full-day tour — Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque, Corniche, Heritage Village, optional Ferrari World or Louvre Abu Dhabi. Leaves at 8 AM, back around 8 PM.
- Our advice: with only four days, pick one. Both in one trip means you see Dubai mostly through a car window.
- Alternative for families: Global Village (evenings, October to April) plus Miracle Garden (daytime, November to March) is a superb substitute for the safari with young children.
Day 4 — Museum of the Future, Mall of the Emirates, departure
- Morning: Museum of the Future timed entry (book 2–3 weeks ahead — it genuinely sells out) or the Frame for skyline photos.
- Afternoon: Mall of the Emirates with Ski Dubai, or outlet shopping at Dubai Outlet Mall if you want bargains.
- Smart move: use the airport's early check-in and drop bags before shopping if your flight is after 8 PM.
- Departure: be at the airport 3 hours before an international flight. Terminal 3 is enormous.
Realistic daily budget (per person, excluding flights and hotel)
| Category | Budget | Comfortable |
|---|---|---|
| Food (2 meals + snacks) | AED 90 | AED 220 |
| Transport (Metro + taxi) | AED 40 | AED 120 |
| One attraction per day | AED 130 | AED 320 |
| Total per day | ≈ AED 260 (₹5,900) | ≈ AED 660 (₹15,000) |
Five mistakes first-timers make
- Booking Burj Khalifa at midday — haze kills the view. Sunset or after dark only.
- Doing Abu Dhabi and the desert safari on consecutive days — you will be wrecked by Day 4.
- Staying in Deira and planning Downtown activities — 35 minutes each way in traffic, twice a day.
- Assuming you can walk between attractions — Dubai is a car city; distances on the map are deceptive.
- Leaving visa filing to the last week — 3–5 working days is normal, longer in peak season.
